Relevant Statutes:
Pipeline Operator
The operator of a major accident hazard pipeline, of over 40 mm internal diameter, shall ensure that an emergency shut-down valve (ESDV) is incorporated as far down the riser, as is reasonably practicable, in a position where it can be safely inspected, maintained and tested.
Such ESDV is a fail safe valve which will be automatically closed by the installation's emergency shut-down system and can be closed by a person positioned close to it.
The ESDV must be
- protected from fire, explosion or impact
- maintained in efficient working order and good repair
When the ESDV has operated it can only be reopened after steps have been taken to ensure that it is safe to do so.
Installation Duty Holder
The installation Duty Holder is required to provide the pipeline operator with such facilities as he requires to fulfil his duties
