Prior to an installation moving into UK waters or moving from one location to another the operator of a licence or the owner of an installation if no licence is involved is required to telex a list of standard addressees using a standard format.
- Telex reports are required
- at least 48 hours before commencing a move to enter UK waters
- at least 48 hours before commencing a move from one location to another
- when an installation being established arrives at its intended location
- when a precise location has been established at the new location
- when the installation has left UK waters
Reports are to be sent to:
- HSE
- MOD - two addresses
- Coastguard
- The Chief Constable with the responsibility for the installation

The information to be put in the telex is:
- Originator' reference and date/time of despatch
- Installation - name, registered owner and HSE registration number
- Operator for move - name, UK address, telex and telephone number
- Planned and actual location installation is moving from/to - geographical co-ordinates,
- well registration number and target ref.
- Dates and times of move
- Work to be carried out at new location, well number if applicable.
- Installations within 500 metres of new location and any connection to that installation
- Supplementary information.
